My way, we lose with the books

As our City Council embarks on a few weeks of budget deliberations, confronting tough choices on how to spend limited public dollars to continue building Calgary as "a great place to make a living, a great place to make a life," (from Imagine Calgary) I'm reminded of one of my favorite exchanges in literature:

I bought you some books in Lutsk, he told her, shutting the door on the early evening and the rest of the world.

We can't afford these, she said, taking the heavy bag. I'll have to return them tomorrow.

But we can't afford not to have them. Which can we not afford more, having them or not having them? As I see it, we lose either way. My way, we lose with the books.

Exactly how I felt as I

Exactly how I felt as I scanned your website for jobs this morning. I'm a retired art and english teacher, looking for work to supplement my pension. Just yesterday, I purchased a few second hand books from the Women in Need store in Forest Lawn and pondered the same thing! I choose to keep the books, rather than sell them today on Kijiji! I appreciate your blog, very much...and I just may choose to write about your blog after completing my new post on the wonderful PechaKucha RECLAIM that I attended last night. This is a wonderful site and I visit often!

I am a jug filled with water

I am a jug filled with water both magic and plain; I have only to lean over and a stream of beautiful thoughts flows out of me. My education has been so unwitting I can't quite tell which of my thoughts come from me and which from my books, but that's how I've stayed attuned to myself and the world around me for the past thirty-five years.

Beautiful!I'd love it if more

Beautiful!

I'd love it if more people contributed quotes that we can send over to City Council!
